Enhanced AI eyewear: Ray-Ban Meta Generation 2 boasts twice the battery life and 3K video capability
Meta and Ray-Ban have unveiled the second generation of their AI-powered smart glasses, the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2. This latest model boasts improved battery life, enhanced video capabilities, and a host of new features that make it a standout in the world of smart wearables.
The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 comes equipped with a USB-C port for charging, a significant upgrade from its predecessor. The glasses offer a battery life of up to 8 hours, a substantial improvement from the previous model's 4 hours. In standby mode, the glasses can last up to 19 hours. They can charge to 50% in just 20 minutes. The charging case provides an additional 40 hours of battery life, up from the previous 32 hours.
The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 offers a 3K video resolution at 30 FPS, a significant increase from the previous model. It can also record videos up to three minutes long and supports Full HD at 60 FPS, providing high-quality video recording capabilities.
The glasses are available in the Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner variants, with a variety of colours for each frame. There are six colours for Wayfarer and Headline frames, seven for Skyler, and a transparent special edition. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 can be purchased as classic sunglasses, with polarized lenses, automatic tinting, and corrective lenses ranging from -6.00 to +4.00. Depending on the glasses chosen, there's also the option of a standard fit or a large fit, and high-bridge models are available.
The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is packed with features that make it more than just a pair of smart glasses. They are equipped with built-in Bluetooth speakers in the frames and five microphones that suppress background noise for music listening, video, and calls. The glasses also include a new feature called "Conversation Focus" to amplify and play back the voice of the person the wearer is talking to.
The glasses also offer access to Meta AI for answering questions about sights, suggesting recipes, and reminding where the car is parked. The Meta AI app offers live translation in multiple languages as part of its AI features, including real-time translations integrated into the glasses. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is compatible with both Android and iOS devices.
One of the most exciting features of the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is the "Conversation Focus" feature, which will also be available as a software update for the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 and the Oakley Meta HSTN. This feature will allow users of the previous models to experience the benefits of the new technology.
The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 camera uses a 12-MP sensor and takes photos at 3.024 × 4.032 pixels. The glasses also support live translation in German and Portuguese, even in airplane mode with the Meta AI app's language pack downloaded.
The starting price for the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is 419 euros, but it can go up to 449 or 499 euros depending on the frame colour and lens prescription. With its improved battery life, enhanced video capabilities, and a host of new features, the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is sure to be a hit with consumers looking for the latest in smart wearable technology.
