Enhanced Sound System Revolutionizes Worship Experience at Willow Creek
Willow Creek Community Church, partnering with Clark, recently upgraded their 7,200-seat auditorium's PA system. The stars of the show? The cutting-edge L-Acoustics L Series loudspeakers, featuring L-Acoustics' Progressive Ultra-Dense Line Source (PULS) technology.
"We've been stuck with that old system for almost two decades, struggling to reach every single seat," says front-of-house engineer Fernando Gamas. "With the L Series, we've transformed our worship experience. Now, we're shouting at a whisper, literally. It's incredible!"
The new system, with its sleek left-right set-up, boasts impressive specs: two L2 speakers above one L2D per side, driven by six 7.16i amplified controllers, complemented by out-fill arrays consisting of one L2 over one L2D driven by four more LA7.16i. A dozen KS28 subs are split six per side and flown, equipped with six more KS28 subs at the center cluster, all powered by three LA12X amplifiers.
Over 100 ultra-compact 5XT coaxials and nine A15i ring delay enclosures cover the massive balcony area, with stage monitoring courtesy of a compact A10i setup onstage for the pastors. One feature that sets the L Series apart is its versatile directivity, promising reduced rear rejection by up to 15 dB.
"With such a diverse program, managing stage audio and enhancing spoken word clarity is paramount, and the L Series excels in this regard," reveals Gamas.
JB Bowling, Clark's VP, fondly describes the unique challenge of the auditorium, which features a 100-foot proscenium opening and an 80-foot fly house. "The compact form factor and solid power output of the L Series make it the perfect choice for such an exceptional venue. It hardly affected sight lines or obstructed any line sets or moving bridges. Yet, the incredible sound covered every inch of this massive room."
Speaking of the impact, Willow Creek's production director Dave Cooke says it was “undeniable”. "Walking to the back of the auditorium during a Sunday service, I was struck by the astonishing sound quality reaching the last row. It was exactly what we'd been looking for in a sound system."
Gamas also enjoys the seamless transition between his reference monitors (a pair of X8i speakers) and the main arrays, highlighting the consistent audio experience throughout the venue.
