The South African boatbuilding industry is set to make waves with the introduction of the Evo 60, a modern-looking luxury catamaran designed for both regatta sailing and bluewater cruising. Evolution Marine, the company behind this innovative project, has provided contact details for those interested (evolutionmarine.co.za).

The Evo 60 is a full South African project, drawn by top multihull designer Anton Du Toit. Its structure is a fully infused E-glass/carbon epoxy, aiming for strong, safe high-speed performance. This lightweight displacement, estimated at 13.5 tonnes, will contribute to its impressive sailing capabilities, with the first boat already in construction at Evolution Marine's Cape Town manufacturing facility.

The saloon of the Evo 60 boasts a Miami beach-house feel, balancing luxury accommodation with a focus on superior sailing characteristics. The sleek lines, aerodynamic superstructure, and contemporary styling elements offer an exclusive sailing experience that appeals to discerning owners looking for both elegance and sporty appeal.

The Evo 60 is unique in the market of luxury performance cruising catamarans. Unlike many traditional luxury cruising cats that sacrifice speed for volume and comfort, the Evo 60 delivers a rare combination of performance sailing capabilities with high-end luxury. Its lightweight construction and advanced sailplan allow it to outperform similarly sized luxury cats in terms of speed and upwind ability.

The deck and cockpit layouts are optimised for ease of handling and entertaining, providing both protected cockpit areas and open decks for sunbathing and socialising. The ergonomics are tuned for owner-operators who want control without a large crew.

The first Evo 60 will make its debut at the International Multihull Show in 2026. Evolution Marine aims to build 12 Evo 60s over the next four years, offering a potentially attractive proposition in comparison to similar performance cruising cats from HH and Balance, due to a shorter lead time and lower price.

For those eager to learn more about the Evo 60 and other bluewater cruisers, a subscription to the world's leading magazine for bluewater cruisers and offshore sailors is offered with a promise of at least 30% off the cover price.
