Expanded Hydrogen Fueling Stations Count in Europe for 2022 – Tüv Sud
In a significant stride towards a greener future, the number of hydrogen refueling stations has seen a notable increase worldwide. According to recent data, as of February 1, 2023, a total of 130 new hydrogen refueling stations were added globally in 2022.
Asia led the pack with 455 stations in operation at the end of the year, followed closely by Europe with 254 stations. South Korea emerged as the frontrunner, adding the largest number of new stations with 45, propelling its total to 149. Japan, another Asian powerhouse, boasted 165 operational stations.
Europe, too, witnessed a substantial growth, with 45 new stations opening in the continent. Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Switzerland continued to lead the charge, but Spain, Italy, and Belgium also made significant strides, opening a sizeable number of stations. France followed closely behind Germany with 44 operational stations, while the UK, Netherlands, and Switzerland had 17, 17, and 14 stations respectively.
North America also joined the hydrogen revolution, with 11 new stations opening, primarily in the state of California, which continues to be the epicentre of hydrogen refueling in the region.
The expansion of hydrogen refueling infrastructure is particularly noteworthy in South Korea, where the government is making concerted efforts to support the growth of fuel cell electric vehicles. This trend is also being observed in countries like Columbia, Cyprus, and Israel, which recently joined the list of nations offering hydrogen refueling.
With concrete plans in place for 315 additional hydrogen refueling station locations, it appears that the future of clean energy is bright and promising. As the world continues to grapple with climate change, the increasing availability of hydrogen refueling stations is a positive step towards a more sustainable future.
