Expenses of $175 million planned by a German corporation for establishing a research and development center in Ho Chi Minh City revealed
In a strategic move to bolster its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, global technology company SAP has established a new Research and Development (R&D) centre in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Grade-A building in Saigon ward will be the home of SAP Labs Vietnam, marking the company's 20th global R&D centre and its second in Southeast Asia, following the one in Singapore.
SAP Labs Vietnam is poised to play a significant role in driving innovation and digital transformation across key industries such as manufacturing, retail, and logistics. As part of SAP's global SAP Labs Network, the centre aims to accelerate technology development for the region, leveraging Vietnam's abundant tech talent and strong government innovation support.
Since its opening in August 2025, SAP Labs Vietnam has already recruited over 200 employees and expects to expand its workforce to 500 staff by 2027, with 350 new hires in 2025 alone. In addition to seeking senior-level talent, the centre is working closely with leading universities in Ho Chi Minh City to nurture young tech talent and open career pathways in advanced fields such as data analytics, AI, and software engineering.
The Vietnam centre concentrates on developing advanced technologies tailored for sectors critical to the Asia-Pacific economy. This focus aligns with SAP’s digital transformation goals to deepen industry-specific solutions and enhance operational efficiencies for customers in the region. By building a strong innovation ecosystem in Vietnam, SAP Labs Vietnam supports the company’s broader Asia-Pacific ambitions to drive AI adoption, cloud ERP modernization, and end-to-end digital transformation for enterprises.
Thomas Saueressig, a member of the executive board of SAP SE, stated that SAP Labs Vietnam is an indispensable catalyst in the digital transformation in one of Asia's most dynamic tech markets. SAP's presence in Vietnam has been established for over 15 years, providing technology solutions to major corporations in various sectors.
Meanwhile, SAP's regional strategic services partner, FPT IS, has been recognised for its contributions, receiving awards for Best Rise Partner and Best Midmarket Partner at the SAP Southeast Asia Partner Success Summit 2024. FPT IS was also awarded SAP's Best Partner of the Year at the same event.
SAP is renowned for its enterprise resource planning, cloud computing, and AI solutions. The new R&D centre in Vietnam supports SAP's product development, particularly in sectors like sustainable digital supply chains and intelligent enterprise solutions integrated with AI.
