In the world of 3D printing, excitement is building around the upcoming release of the YUMi multi-color 3D printer. This innovative device will come in three sizes: C235, C335, and C435, each offering a unique printing experience.

The YUMi, which claims to be the fastest multi-color 3D printer in the galaxy, boasts impressive speed stats of 700mm/s with a max acceleration of 20,000mm/s². These statistics are backed by vanilla Klipper, but the main selling point isn't just the speed.

Shannon, an American 3D designer known for whimsical and somewhat spooky models on platforms like Cults3D and Patreon, was invited by YUMi’s CEO, Nicolas Michaut, to visit their 3D printer factory in China. Despite not receiving any travel expenses or other compensation, Shannon accepted this opportunity to see the factory firsthand and experience Chinese culture.

During her visits, Shannon tested early versions of the YUMi printer, providing direct user feedback to the engineering team. She also engaged with her audience by taking their questions and testing their suggestions on the developing machine. Her ongoing communication with the YUMi team gave her insight into their work ethic, care, and determination, which she found impressive and confidence-inspiring in terms of the product’s potential quality.

Shannon shared behind-the-scenes videos of the factory and her travels with her 25,000 TikTok followers, documenting the process transparently. This not only provided a unique insight into the YUMi's development but also played a crucial role in bridging her personal brand with the printer’s development and marketing.

The YUMi is a 12-color modular 3D printer with a 12-color toolhead. While this allows for a wide range of colour options, it's important to note that the colours still share a single nozzle, so there will still be a need for filament purging.

Another interesting feature of the YUMi is the pro version of the spool holder, which will have a heater to act as a drier for more difficult filaments.

The YUMi's modular spool holders allow for 1 to 12 spool modules to be added, with the option to line them up on the gantry. However, it's worth mentioning that the printer does not copy Bambu Lab's 4-slot AMS or Prusa Research's 5-spool cluster MMU3 in terms of spool holders.

The Kickstarter price for the YUMi 3D printer starts at $195 for the C235 with a single color toolhead and goes up to $775 for the C435 with 12 colors. With its impressive speed, modular design, and user-friendly features, the YUMi is certainly a 3D printer to watch out for.
