Firefighters Tackle Hazardous Materials Leak on A3 Highway
Firefighters in Solingen responded to a hazardous materials incident at the Ohligser Heide rest area on the A3 highway on September 23, 2025. The incident involved a truck leaking an unknown liquid, which was later identified as contaminated water. Upon arrival, the Fire Department Solingen deployed around 70 personnel, including both professional and volunteer firefighters. They discovered that the liquid on the trailer's cargo area had leaked from a Ford truck carrying hazardous materials. The firefighters, dressed in chemical protective suits and heavy breathing apparatus, explored the Volvo truck with the aid of a drone for reconnaissance. To contain the spill, a binding agent was used to absorb the liquid. The rest area was promptly evacuated and cordoned off to ensure the safety of the public. The police were called in to organize the removal of the vehicle once the area was deemed safe. The incident was successfully resolved at 4:45 pm, with no reported injuries or further hazards. The identity of the commander of the Solingen Fire Brigade Command involved in this incident remains unknown.
