Floating stairs found in Wormser pedestrian zone at location "K32"
The repurposed Kaufhof building in Worms, now known as K32 (Kaemmererstrasse 24-32), is nearing the end of its rough construction work. The project, developed by Ehret + Klein, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
Upon completion, the K32 will be ready for occupancy, offering a modern, multifunctional centre that combines shopping, dining, and leisure. The ground floor will house the anchor tenant Rewe, with the fit-out work still pending, potentially completing by the end of the year.
The gastronomy area, spanning around 1,400 square meters, will feature a variety of dining options. This includes a café with a bakery and a drinks bar. Co-working and office spaces, a fitness studio, and additional gastronomy are planned for the upper floors. An approximately 300 square meter gastronomy area with a terrace and a view of the cathedral is planned on the top floor.
Besides gastronomy, the K32 will also house retailers specializing in fashion and lifestyle products. However, no details have been given about the planned use of the remaining floors in the K32 building.
The K32 project is a pioneer for the repurposing of Kaufhof buildings. After its completion, it could serve as a blueprint for other cities dealing with similar architectural heritage. In the coming weeks, work on the K32's facade will continue, and new windows will be installed.
Interestingly, the K32 will be the second revitalized Kaufhof in the entire country. A new staircase has been installed at the K32, with elements transported via crane due to complex access.
The K32 project is a significant step towards modernizing Worms' cityscape. Once completed, it will undoubtedly become a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a unique blend of shopping, dining, and leisure experiences.
When the K32 project is completed by the end of 2025 or early 2026, it will transform into a modern, multifunctional center, not only offering shopping opportunities but also various food options with a diverse gastronomy area spanning around 1,400 square meters, featuring cafes, bakeries, and drinks bars. Additionally, the integration of technology is evident as the K32 will also incorporate co-working and office spaces and a fitness studio, demonstrating how innovative technology can seamlessly blend with traditional food experiences.
