Freshfields Bolsters IP and TMT Capabilities with Harry Evans' Appointment

Global law firm Freshfields has strengthened its Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) capabilities in Asia with the addition of IP and TMT expert Harry Evans as a partner in its Singapore office.

Evans brings over 15 years of experience advising clients on complex commercial arrangements and business-critical issues in the technology, IP, and life sciences sectors. His expertise spans tech and IP law, with a notable focus on life sciences and tech-related commercial matters.

In his new role at Freshfields, Evans will work closely with Richard Bird, the head of the firm's IP and data practice group in Asia, and the wider global IP and data team to bolster service offerings. He will also collaborate with Freshfields' leading corporate, mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, and disputes teams across Asia, the US, and Europe to provide integrated support for clients in the tech and life sciences fields.

Freshfields views Singapore as a key regional hub for tech firms, and Evans' appointment aligns with its broader Asia strategy to widen its IP and tech sector footprint, particularly amid growth in markets such as Japan and Southeast Asia.

Nicholas Lingard, Singapore managing partner, expressed excitement about Evans joining the firm, stating that his extensive experience in IP and TMT will be a huge asset to Freshfields' clients. Evans' arrival at Freshfields is part of the firm's strategic investment into Southeast Asia and other high-growth industries.

Evans previously worked at Linklaters in London and Allens in Australia before joining Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, where he was co-head of its Asia IP/Commercial team. He will now work on high-stakes mandates involving intellectual capital and cutting-edge technology at Freshfields.

With Evans' appointment, Freshfields now has nine partners in Singapore. The tech and life sciences sectors in Asia are attracting significant investment, and Freshfields believes that Evans' deep expertise and proven leadership in life sciences are invaluable as it seeks to deepen its market position and support clients' innovation-driven transactions and disputes in Asia's technology and life sciences sectors.
