Geely Galaxy A7: A New Player in China's Plug-in Hybrid Sedan Market
The Geely Galaxy A7, a new plug-in hybrid sedan, is set to make its debut in China on August 8, 2025. This mid-size D-segment vehicle is equipped with advanced hybrid technology, impressive efficiency statistics, and competitive dimensions, positioning it to challenge rivals like the BYD Qin L DM-i in the growing mid-size plug-in hybrid sedan market.
Key Features and Specifications
The Geely Galaxy A7 employs Geely's latest EM-i AI Super Hybrid 2.0 system, a combination of a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The petrol engine generates approximately 110–111 PS (82 kW) and 136 Nm torque, while the electric motor delivers around 235–238 PS (175 kW) and 262 Nm torque. This setup allows the A7 to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 7.1 seconds with a top speed of 190 km/h.
The A7 offers two battery options: an 8.5 kWh battery from CALB, providing about 70 km pure electric range, and an 18.4 kWh battery from CALT, offering up to 150 km EV range. The combined full-electric-plus-fuel driving range of the A7 tops 2,100 km, making it suitable for long-distance travel with minimal fuel stops.
The A7's fuel efficiency is rated at approximately 2.67 L/100 km under China's CLTC standard. In terms of dimensions, the A7 measures roughly 4,918 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,845 mm, placing it in the spacious mid-size sedan category.
The A7 is equipped with modern design highlights like Starwave LED lighting and features Geely's GEA (Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture) platform, making it the first plug-in hybrid sedan based on this architecture. It also comes with G-Pilot H3 smart driving assistance, supporting urban and highway navigation assistance.
Price and Market Positioning
Pre-sale prices for the Geely Galaxy A7 range from roughly 103,800 to 133,800 yuan (approximately $14,500 to $18,650 USD). The A7's planned official launch is in August 2025. Recently, two new, more affordable variants for the A7 were announced with pre-sales starting prices of RMB 97,800 and RMB 113,800. These new variants are equipped with a basic driver assistance system.
Expected Sales and Market Insights
The A7's combination of long electric range, substantial total driving range, competitive pricing, and advanced driver assistance systems makes it an attractive option for buyers seeking efficiency and smart tech. Early pre-sale interest and multiple trim levels indicate Geely aims for a strong market entry and broad customer appeal.
