Global release of the Apple iPhone 17 series could see increased price tags, as outlined in this article.

Apple is set to raise the prices of most iPhone 17 models, according to analyst Edison Lee of Jefferies. The forecasted price hike, estimated to be around $50, will affect the iPhone 17 Slim (or 17 Air), iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The base iPhone 17 model, however, is expected to retain its starting price of $799.

The price increase is primarily due to rising global tariffs on Chinese-made components and related cost increases. Apple aims to mitigate this by shifting some production to India, although it is unlikely to meet the demand for US-bound iPhones in full.

While Apple may justify the price hikes with new features and design updates, rising global tariffs and trade policy uncertainties remain significant drivers for the cost increases leading to higher iPhone 17 prices. This marks one of the first price increases in several years following stable pricing in previous iPhone series.

During the Q3 2025 earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed a decrease in earnings due to tariffs, amounting to $800 million. The company had earlier estimated that tariffs could add an additional $1.1 billion to its costs in the September quarter. It is unclear which products or markets were most affected beyond the iPhone 17 series.

Despite the added tariff burden, Apple posted strong quarterly results with $94.04 billion in revenue, marking a 10% year-over-year increase. The company's success was driven by sales across iPhones, Macs, and its Services division.

It is important to note that these estimates are subject to changes due to the international trade policy still being in flux. The iPhone 16 series saw a record sale during the quarter, and if the price hike rumours are confirmed, the iPhone 17 series could see record high prices in India and other regions as well.

  1. The price increase for the iPhone 17 series, according to analyst Edison Lee of Jefferies, is attributed not only to new features and design updates, but also to rising global tariffs and trade policy uncertainties, which have led to increased costs for components.
  2. Apple's strategy to combat the financial impact of global tariffs on Chinese-made components includes shifting some production to India, however, it may not meet the demand for US-bound iPhones in full, especially considering the potential for record high prices in India and other regions due to the anticipated price hike for the iPhone 17 series.
