Google Expands Free Artificial Intelligence Storage Benefit to Additional Android Devices

According to recent findings, Google is expanding its generous cloud storage and Gemini Advanced perks to Xiaomi phones. The discovery was made in the Google app's code version 16.7.21.sa.arm64, which also references "Xiaomi" alongside other devices that currently offer a Google One Premium trial. This trial package incorporates Gemini Advanced, along with other benefits for eligible regions, such as a 2TB storage boost, Nest Aware (for UK users), and Fitbit Premium (again, for UK users)1.

The duration of the Google One AI Premium trial varies across devices. Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro owners can enjoy a full 12 months of this AI-focused plan at no cost, worth $240 per year. Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S25 buyers get six months of the same deal, and MotoroLA Razr 50 Ultra owners get a three-month trial1. As for Xiaomi users, while actual trial length has yet to be disclosed, it's reasonable to expect a duration similar to other brands, minus the max length that Pixel users enjoy.

Google's strategy behind these promotions is clear: introduce non-Pixel users to its software suite. The industry is witnessing a fierce smartphone AI competition between top manufacturers, with Google actively pursuing a wider Gemini reach by collaborating with various device brands or offering discounts for Verizon customers.

In addition to strategic device collaborations, Google is also enhancing the capabilities of popular apps like Circle to Search. This Power Boost feature now supports music detection, text translation, QR code scanning, and image search on virtually any device due to its minimal processing requirements1.

Additional rumors hint at a possible future integration of Google Gemini into Siri after surpassing Bixby on the Galaxy S25. Incorporating Xiaomi devices within this ecosystem simply amplifies its influence, although Xiaomi users in China, where Google Play Services are banned, might not promptly adopt these AI-focused features.
