Google Meet encounters resolved involuntarily with the introduction of Gemini - regardless of user preference

In a move to enhance productivity and streamline collaboration, Google and Microsoft have introduced AI-powered assistants within their respective workplace applications.

Google has rolled out its updated AI assistant, Ask Gemini in Meet, which aims to make conference calls more efficient by addressing one of the most annoying aspects of joining a meeting – the waiting time before the call begins. The assistant is now available for Google Workspace Business Plus users and will be gradually integrated into Google Workspace apps like Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides, and Meet itself. Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and other accounts will gain access to Ask Gemini in Meet in the coming months.

Ask Gemini in Meet generates answers based on meeting captions and other Google Workspace resources. It also draws content from Google search and public websites to provide more insightful responses. The assistant is a desktop-only feature and is initially available for English language meetings only. Support for more languages will be added soon.

On the other hand, Microsoft is developing automatic summaries of messages in chats for Teams. This feature aims to help users catch up more quickly by providing summaries of past conversations. Microsoft's Copilot will also unlock web results, work files, email, and people for generating more insightful responses in Teams meetings.

It's important to note that interactions and responses with Ask Gemini in Meet are private to each user, and captions and meeting data are not stored after the meeting ends. The assistant is not available in breakout rooms at this time.

While no further details about the best AI tools, productivity apps, or the issue related to echoes in Google Meet were mentioned, it's clear that both Google and Microsoft are committed to leveraging AI to make workplace collaboration more efficient and productive.

Stay tuned for more updates as these features continue to roll out and evolve.
