Bavarian THW Personnel Aid in Ongoing Forest Fire Fighting Efforts in Thuringia and Saxony

Bavarian Technical Relief Agency (THW) personnel are playing a significant role in the ongoing efforts to combat forest fires in Thuringia and Saxony. Approximately 50 THW personnel are currently stationed in Gohrischheide, providing support in various capacities.

These dedicated volunteers are not only assisting in leadership and coordination tasks at the deployment sites but are also playing a crucial role in catering to around 600 deployed forces. The THW personnel in Gohrischheide have set up a staging area that can supply thousands of forces with necessary resources.

In addition to their work in Gohrischheide, about 300 Bavarian THW helpers are involved in continuous operations in Thuringia and Saxony. Local THW associations from Bavaria, including Selb, Mellrichstadt, Marktredwitz, Bayreuth, Kirchehrenbach, Forchheim, and Aschaffenburg, are part of these efforts.

The THW's commitment extends beyond the borders of Bavaria. Two water transport containers, each holding approximately 10,000 liters, were dispatched by THW Kronach forces to Thuringia as part of the Upper Franconia assistance contingent. A special unit 'Water Damage/Pumps' of the THW is also on standby, ready to depart for Saxony at short notice.

The THW's mission in Thuringia on the Saalfelder Height has been successfully completed. Meanwhile, the deployed forces have loaded high-performance pumps onto the truck to aid in the ongoing firefighting efforts.

The THW is a federal operational organization carried by volunteers, with approximately 88,000 volunteers nationwide. The organization is called upon worldwide by the federal government for various tasks, including bilateral aid, tasks within the European Union's civil protection mechanism, and on behalf of UN organizations.

The THW's efforts in Gohrischheide are aimed at ensuring smooth and targeted operations, with the deployed forces working tirelessly to combat the ongoing forest fires. The THW personnel's dedication and commitment are a testament to their unwavering service to the community.
