Greifswald's Mayor Unveils Plans to Modernize BioTechnikum and TZV
Greifswald's Mayor Dr. Stefan Fassbinder has welcomed new plans to modernize the city's BioTechnikum and Technology Center (TZV). The project, which includes the creation of a Digital Innovation Center, will strengthen existing municipal facilities and benefit the entire city. The University of Greifswald is also involved, exploring options for the Mensa on Schießwall.
The modernization plans will include the existing co-working spaces in BioTechnikum, with outdated technical equipment set to be renewed. The TZV will gain new spaces for demonstrations and modern conference areas, targeting companies from various sectors. The Digital Innovation Center will now be integrated into these existing startup centers instead of the Old Mensa on Schießwall.
The funding amount of 17 million euros and the amount of own funds remain unchanged. The city aims to strengthen both locations and use them more effectively in the future. The expansion of the laboratory building at TZV is favored, resulting in around 3,500 m² of attractive office space and up-to-date meeting and event areas. The new plans can be implemented faster as construction is done in the existing portfolio, avoiding challenges like heritage protection and pollutants.
Greifswald's Mayor Dr. Stefan Fassbinder has praised the coordinated plans, stating they strengthen both existing municipal facilities and future target groups. The University of Greifswald is also involved in the project, exploring options for the Mensa on Schießwall. The modernization of BioTechnikum and TZV, including the creation of a Digital Innovation Center, is set to benefit the entire city.
