Grid Reliability Initiative Expands with the Enrollment of BMW and Ford Electric Vehicles by ChargeScape and PSEG Long Island
In a groundbreaking move, ChargeScape, a joint venture between BMW, Honda, Ford, and Nissan, has formed a partnership with PSEG Long Island. This collaboration aims to integrate electric vehicles (EVs) into the power grid through an AI-driven demand response program called the Peak Load Reduction program.
The program, which will enroll over 6,000 BMW and Ford EV drivers, uses ChargeScape’s proprietary software, EV AI™, to optimally control the timing, duration, and intensity of EV charging. This ensures EV charging demand does not exceed the grid’s capacity at any time or location, especially during peak summer demand periods, thereby supporting grid stability and reliability.
Joseph Vellone, CEO of ChargeScape, stated that the Peak Load Reduction program is an example of collaboration between automakers and power utilities. He further added that the program is designed to help EV drivers save money on charging costs while also contributing to the community and grid stability.
Participating EV owners will receive financial incentives for helping to reduce strain on the grid by shifting or modulating their charging to off-peak or lower-demand times. The specific details about these incentives were not provided by Vellone. However, he mentioned that ChargeScape's customers will also have the chance to contribute to their community.
The goal of the initiative is to alleviate strain on the power grid during summer months and ensure that EV electricity demand does not exceed what the power grid can support at a certain time or location. The program is not limited to just BMW and Ford customers on Long Island, and more than 4,000 BMW EV drivers and 2,200 Ford EV drivers will be enrolled in the program.
The software determines the optimal timing, duration, and intensity of EV charging for enrolled customers. It receives real-time data from PSEG Long Island to optimize EV charging, helping the community by reducing charging costs and contributing to grid stability.
The partnership between ChargeScape and PSEG Long Island is intended to help the community by providing opportunities for customers to reduce their charging costs and contribute to the community. By participating in the Peak Load Reduction program, EV drivers can not only save money but also play a crucial role in maintaining grid stability and community resilience.
The partnership between ChargeScape, automakers like BMW and Ford, and PSEG Long Island extends to the finance sector, as EV drivers enrolled in the Peak Load Reduction program will receive financial incentives for modulating their charging. The Peak Load Reduction program, which also includes Honda and Nissan, is a significant move in the energy industry, aiming to integrate electric vehicles into the power grid and support grid stability. Additionally, this initiative in the transportation and automotive sectors leverages cutting-edge technology, specifically ChargeScape’s AI-driven software, EV AI™, to optimize EV charging.
