Hof District's Bridge Project Soars to 42.1 Million Euros, Boosting Tourism Hopes
The Hof district's ambitious project to construct two suspension bridges in the Frankenwald nature park has seen a significant budget hike. Initially planned at 12 million euros, the budget has now soared to 42.1 million euros. Despite the cost escalation, the district remains committed to the project, viewing it as a boon for tourism.
The project, set to commence with the adoption of a project-specific zoning plan in July 2024, now faces potential delays. Construction was originally slated to start in 2027, with an opening planned for 2029. The bridges, the 1030-meter-long Hollental Bridge and the 389-meter-long Lohbachtal Bridge, are designed to offer stunning views and be accessible from the visitor center at the lake.
The cost increase is partly attributed to changes in planning for nature conservation and monument protection. The Hof district, however, continues to support the project, considering it a valuable addition to the region's tourist economy.
The budget for the Frankenwald suspension bridges project has increased to 42.1 million euros, more than triple the original estimate. Despite this, the Hof district remains dedicated to the project, viewing it as a significant boost for tourism. The project's timeline may be affected, with potential delays in construction and opening.
