Honeywell purchases Li-ion Tamer® lithium-ion battery monitoring systems from Nexceris

Nexceris, a pioneering company in clean energy solutions, has announced the sale of its Li-ion Tamer® lithium-ion battery monitoring products to Honeywell. This advanced off-gas monitoring solution, designed to detect early signs of thermal runaway in lithium-ion batteries, is a critical technology for preventing catastrophic fires in sectors such as energy storage, cloud infrastructure, and electric vehicles.

Origins of Li-ion Tamer®

The development of Li-ion Tamer® traces back to a catastrophic lithium-ion battery fire at a U.S. Navy shipyard. Investigating this incident led Nexceris to create a durable off-gas detection solution, setting the foundation for the industry-leading technology we know today as Li-ion Tamer®.

A Strategic Partnership

Over the past five years, Nexceris and Honeywell have partnered to distribute Li-ion Tamer® globally. This collaboration has resulted in over 400 million hours of sensing, demonstrating significant operational adoption and reliability.

Impact of the Sale

For Nexceris, the transaction allows the company to focus on other breakthrough clean energy innovations involving advanced materials and component-level products, effectively commercializing other technologies through licensing or acquisition by industrial partners.

For Honeywell, incorporating Li-ion Tamer® into its Building Automation segment enhances its fire life safety portfolio, making it a leader in early gas detection and lithium-ion battery fire prevention. The acquisition is expected to be immediately financially accretive and significantly strengthens Honeywell’s position in the rapidly growing lithium-ion battery safety market, projected to grow over 30% annually through 2030 to surpass $400 billion.

Market Significance

As lithium-ion battery usage expands rapidly across data centers, grid-scale storage, and electric vehicle infrastructures, the need for early fire detection to mitigate growing safety risks is critical. Li-ion Tamer®’s early warning technology addresses these safety challenges directly, helping to prevent destructive fires and loss of entire energy systems.

In essence, this acquisition represents a strategic consolidation, enabling Nexceris to accelerate innovation in other energy fields while Honeywell leverages proven technology to safeguard critical infrastructure and capitalize on the expanding lithium-ion battery market.

Randall Stacy, Chief Commercial Officer and Managing Partner at Nexceris, commented on the sale, stating, "This transaction is a significant milestone that reflects the dedication of the Nexceris team and validates our mission of commercialization through collaboration." Kyle Shen, President and CEO of Nexceris, added, "We are proud of what Li-ion Tamer® has become and look forward to seeing its continued growth and impact under Honeywell's leadership."
