Hydrogen industry head assumes position at Luxfer Gas Cylinders, focusing on expansion in the realm of alternative energy sources.

Steve Jones, a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in renewables and decarbonisation, has joined Luxfer Gas Cylinders as the Business Director of Alternative Fuels. Based at Luxfer’s UK site, Jones leads a team of 15 alternative fuel and commercial specialists.

Jones' role focuses on growing Luxfer’s involvement in mobility projects and bulk gas transport applications across Europe. His aim is to increase Luxfer's contribution to these sectors, especially in the adoption of hydrogen and other alternative fuels. He believes that the next challenge is to prove the long-term business case and overcome the commercial barriers to hydrogen adoption.

Luxfer Gas Cylinders, a global leader in the production of high-performance materials, has a unique position in the gas industry. According to Jones, the company's combination of agility, innovation, robust track record, and unrivaled reputation make it an ideal partner for organisations seeking to decarbonise their operations. Being part of a listed global company, Luxfer Gas Cylinders offers flexible agreements that make operating valuable assets like the G-Stor®Hydrosphere more accessible.

Jones' passion for hydrogen solutions was sparked during his engineering degree at the University of Birmingham, a world-leading institute in hydrogen research and development. This passion has been the driving force behind his career in the hydrogen sector, which began during his university days.

The Luxfer Gas Cylinders' UK site supports the design and manufacture of hydrogen and CNG-powered solutions for various applications including buses, HGVs, rail, and marine. The site also houses a multi-million-pound production facility for the company's latest innovation-the G-Stor®Hydrosphere.

Jones' eldest son recently joined the JCB Academy, which has invested heavily in hydrogen power. This family connection further underscores Jones' commitment to the hydrogen sector.

In his new role, Jones expresses excitement about preparing Luxfer Gas Cylinders' teams to meet future demand for hydrogen solutions. He believes that the company is well-positioned to help organisations meet their decarbonisation goals due to its bulk gas transport units and alternative fuel products.

The hydrogen technology has gained real-world acceptance over the past 20 years, and Jones aims to build on this momentum to drive further adoption of hydrogen and alternative fuels. He sees Luxfer Gas Cylinders as a stable partner, proven for engineering excellence over 80 years, and is confident that the company will play a significant role in the transition to a more sustainable future.
