Immerse yourself in this summer's leisurely viewing, presented by Girard-Perregaux and Bamford.
Girard-Perregaux has revived its Deep Diver watch, originally released in the late 1960s and early 1970s, in a collaboration with Bamford Watch Department. This reimagining is more than just a revival of an archive piece, offering a pop of color and a refreshing deviation from the usual muted palettes.
The Deep Diver originated from a period of confidence and technical ambition in the watch industry, marked by groundbreaking developments in movement technology. It contrasted starkly with the minimalist designs of other popular watches, such as the Omega Speedmaster and the Rolex Daytona. Instead, the Deep Diver embraced large cases, vibrant colors, luminous markers, and a high-tech, self-winding movement.
The collaboration between Girard-Perregaux and Bamford Watch Department results in an updated version of the original, maintaining key details while modernizing and re-engineering them for contemporary wear. The watch features a polished titanium case, rubber straps, blue-glowing SuperLumiNova, and Girard-Perregaux’s current caliber GP03300. A subtle Bamford signature adorns the dial.
Though it does not boast a true compressor case, the Deep Diver has a water resistance rating of 200 meters, making it safe for pool diving. This detail was crucial to watch founder George Bamford, who ensured that the Deep Diver would meet pool-safety standards. The watch even arrives with a pool-themed presentation box.
The reintroduced Deep Diver has received positive feedback, following the successful sell-out of Girard-Perregaux’s modern take on the 1976 Casquette watch. This resurgence of interest in archive finds could help increase visibility for Girard-Perregaux, a brand that competes with prestigious names such as Jaeger-LeCoultre and Audemars Piguet.
The 2025 Girard-Perregaux Legacy Edition Deep Diver is limited to 350 pieces and is available at Goldsmiths in the UK for £12,900 and Watches of Switzerland in the US for $15,100.
