Immersive Audio Triumph: Museum of the Bible's Achievement of 360-Degree Surround Sound Experience

In the heart of Washington, D.C., the Museum of the Bible has drawn crowds with its interactive exhibit, All Creation Sings. This 45-minute immersive worship experience, inspired by Psalm 148, is not just a visual spectacle but a sonic journey as well.

The Museum of the Bible's IT interactive systems manager, Joel Conrad, was particularly impressed with the L-Acoustics solution for All Creation Sings, finding it to be of premium quality without adding a significant cost.

At the core of this immersive audio system is L-Acoustics L-ISA immersive sound technology. This advanced system is designed to create multidimensional sound experiences, enhancing spatial realism and engagement in exhibits and performances. In the context of All Creation Sings, L-ISA would likely provide spatially precise, multi-directional sound that immerses visitors within the audio narrative.

The exhibit uses L-ISA technology to enhance the clarity and localization of sounds such as music, spoken audio, and natural effects, creating an enveloping sound environment. Moreover, L-ISA supports the storytelling by dynamically moving sounds around the listener to reflect thematic elements or guide visitor attention.

Skylark AV, an Oklahoma City-based company, handled the installation of projectors, LiDAR cameras, and technical gear for All Creation Sings. They used 16 L-Acoustics X8i coaxial loudspeakers, four KS21 subs, and seven LA2Xi amplified controllers for the exhibit's panoramic audio system.

The crowds at the Museum of the Bible indicate that visitors are truly enveloped in the experience of All Creation Sings, as intended. The fidelity throughout the entire exhibit space feels warm, moving, and engaging.

Signals for the exhibit's audio system are routed from Disguise D3 media servers via Dante, converted to AES with Q-SYS, and then sent one-to-one per speaker. Each LA2Xi amplified controller drives four loudspeakers, with a unique feed sent to each speaker to supply the immersive effect.

James Rudder, L-ISA application engineer at L-Acoustics, created a fully immersive sound experience using the L-ISA Processor II. The X8i speakers are compact and have a low-profile design, enabling them to be hidden in a thin 12-inch black band around the upper perimeter of the room without interfering with the projection surfaces.

The L-ISA Processor II was used for onsite spatial mixing in All Creation Sings, ensuring a perfect match between the visuals and the audio. Skylark AV and L-Acoustics did the final mix in-room for All Creation Sings, further enhancing the immersive experience.

The immersive playback option of L-ISA technology is suitable for fixed environments where the audio content doesn't change. L-ISA technology can enhance creativity and deliver exceptional audience experiences, even in scenarios with technical or budgetary considerations.

The exhibit's visual spectacle was designed by Atlanta-based Meptik using 360-degree projection mapping and LiDAR sensors. The application of L-ISA in All Creation Sings brings the entire experience together, offering visitors a truly immersive and engaging journey through the biblical narrative.
