Increased manufacturing of laptops and computers by MSI in India

Micro-Star International Co (MSI), a leading global manufacturer of computer hardware products, is set to expand its notebook production in India, according to a source who spoke anonymously to the Taipei Times yesterday.

The expansion is driven by a combination of cost advantages and India's rapidly expanding consumer market. MSI operates about 50 brand stores in India and sells through major retailer Croma Electronics Pvt Ltd. The company also partnered with Indian electronics maker Syrma SGS Technology Ltd late last year.

In addition to Taiwan and China, MSI has decided to produce notebooks and PCs with Nvidia RTX 50 graphics cards in India, specifically at its Chennai facility in partnership with Syrma SGS Technology Limited. The first expected revenue contributions from these products would realistically begin in late 2025 following the manufacturing expansions announced in September 2025.

MSI plans to manufacture some of its new gaming PCs powered by Nvidia Corp's RTX 50 graphics cards in India. The Indian government's Production Linked Incentive program, launched in 2020, offered financial support to MSI for producing in India.

The arrival of the traditional peak season next quarter is expected to strengthen MSI's revenue compared with this quarter. MSI might expand distribution to Amazon.com Inc's India platform and Flipkart Inc, but the specifics were not disclosed.

The source did not disclose further details about the expansion plans. However, it is worth noting that most production of RTX 50-equipped products would still come from MSI's sites in Taiwan and China. MSI continues to import most components for products assembled in India, with further localization dependent on cost structures and policy incentives.
