India's Solar Push: Waaree Energies Launches 950 MW Line, Avaada Group's Rajasthan Projects Worth INR 92 Billion
Waaree Energies Limited has launched a 950 MW solar module manufacturing line in Degam village, Gujarat. Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has advised scrapping tenders with short bidding timelines issued to bypass the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for solar cells. The ALMM List-II will be issued from June 1, 2026.
Avaada Group has announced two significant solar PV projects in Rajasthan, worth an investment of INR 92 billion. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Pugal project and inaugurated the Bikaner facility. Both projects use n-type TOPCon bifacial solar cells produced by Avaada Electro, a subsidiary of Avaada Group. The projects include a 1.56 GW solar + 2,500 MWh energy storage project in Pugal and a 282 MW DC/200 MW AC solar project in Shri Dungargarh, Bikaner.
The MNRE has designated Tata Power's subsidiaries for manufacturing solar cells on the ALMM List-II for solar cells. TP Solar Ltd. has facilities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, with a total capacity of 4.48 GW for Mono Crystalline PERC Bifacial cells and an additional 4.8 GW for TOPCon cells. Other manufacturers already on the list include Adani, Emmvee, Premier Energies, Mundra Solar, ReNew, Jupiter International, and First Solar with 3.2 GW cadmium telluride thin-film capacity. The MNRE has instructed all state agencies to strictly adhere to existing rules and regulations when issuing bids for solar cell procurement.
Waaree Energies' new manufacturing line and Avaada Group's projects in Rajasthan demonstrate India's commitment to expanding solar energy capacity. The MNRE's actions ensure fair competition and adherence to quality standards in solar cell procurement.
