io9 had the pleasure of checking out this newest addition to the popcorn bucket game that kicked off in Disney theme parks before taking over movie theaters as the ultimate souvenir. AMC Theaters' Dune sandworm popcorn bucket was the epitome of absurdity, but Disney's robo-makeover entries the stage once more. Take a look at this motion-filled, blinking bucket that's just waiting for you to dig in, all while engaging in fun conversations starter with a simple "Hey Mickey?"
The bucket's programming may be limited to a few phrases, but the real charm lies in the moving head and blinking eyes. It's borderline mind-blowing and a tad unsettling, yet adorable enough. What's truly disconcerting, however, is that the interactive feature responds to your voice when prompted – unfortunately, it's still working out some kinks. I actually screamed at it, but it chose to ignore me. Strangely, it did manage to pick up voices from its cast member friend. Perhaps I should have lowered my voice a couple of octaves and perfected my best Gaston impersonation to be understood by robot Mickey Mouse.
As for movie theaters incorporating voice activation in their buckets, it seems probable only for M3GAN. This whacky addition is without a doubt a winner in the popcorn bucket hall of fame.
