Does Infinity Nikki Have Multiplayer?
Indeed, it does! Infinity Nikki invites you to:
- Add friends using a friend code (details below)
- Engage in chat sessions with friends
- Snap group photos
- Roam each other's worlds, gathering goodies and battling overworld hoardes
Co-op Fun in Infinity Nikki
There are two routes to enjoy co-op in Infinity Nikki: hanging out with strangers or inviting buddies from your friend list.
Random Nikki Encounters
Wander around, and you'll come across mysterious, pink-and-blue silhouettes – other players! To enter their world, approach and hit 'F' on your keyboard. They'll extend a hand, and an invitation will be sent. The invitation gets canceled if you wander too far or if the other person declines. If they accept, the magical appearance of a friendly Nikki awaits you! You can then traverse the world, accomplish tasks like gathering items, and bond over a variety of co-op activities.
Buddy-Bonding
Hit up your friend list! Navigate to the Pear-Pal, select the Friends icon, and click on a friend. If they're online, a pair icon will appear next to their name. Clicking this will send an invitation. Once they accept, they'll teleport into your world. Meanwhile, you can enjoy a plethora of overworld activities together!
Pressing 'F' when near your friend opens a menu where you can hold hands, execute actions, chat, or capture a group photo.
Holding hands allows you to collaborate on gathering materials like Whimstars, Dews of Inspiration, and treasures. Any progress made in someone's world will count towards both! So if you journey to a friend's world and pluck a Whimstar you don't have, it'll also be registered in your own world once you return. Friends can also undertake activities like fishing, grooming pets, catching bugs, battling overworld creatures, and gathering items, with shared rewards for both players!
Chatting with Friends
Firing Up a Chat
Get ready for some heartfelt conversations! In the Pear-Pal, you can easily text chat with your pals. If you're playing co-op, simply press Enter to bring up the chat interface and talk away!
Capturing Memorable Moments
There are two photo-taking methods in Infinity Nikki. First is the traditional Snapshot method, which can be difficult but permits you to take photos in offline mode. For simpler photography fun, version 1.5 added an easier option to snap photos together in co-op mode!
Snapshot Snapshots
To take a photo with another player this way, progress through the Chapter 2 quest The Truth is Close (keeps you busy for at least two days). Once completed, unlock the Snapshot function on the camera. Take a photo with Momo's camera in the world and tap the Snapshot button. An hourglass will appear in the location you snapped, visible in other players' worlds. They can then snap a photo with your posed Nikki, post it online, and even roll out a friend request if you're not already acquainted. Finding your friend's Snapshots can be quite the challenge, so good luck!
Co-op Happy Snaps
Taking photos with co-op is simpler. Both you and your friend must be online and within each other's world. Approach your friend and press 'F' to bring up the menu, and select Photo Together. Jump into various solo and group poses for the perfect shot! Unfortunately, as the co-op functionality in Infinity Nikki is currently experiencing issues, I haven't been able to personally test this feature. Rest assured, I'll update this once the feature resumes normal operations!
Adding Friends
Making Friends in Infinity Nikki
Before bonding with friends, you need to:
- Advance through the tutorial and relocate to the Stylist Guild in Florawish to receive the Pear-Pal.
- To add a friend in Infinity Nikki:
- Press Esc to open your Pear-Pal
- Head to the second page of apps and select the "Friends" app
- Click "add friends" and then "generate friend code"
- The code will be copied to your clipboard so you can send it to a friend via text or Discord or other chat service
- Paste a received friend code in the grey box at the top of the screen that says "enter friend code"
The Future of Co-op
Infinity Nikki's multiplayer encounters appear to be evolving, but Infold Games is keeping mum about concrete details.
"Players can also join other players' worlds to take pictures together," sub-director Kentaro Tominaga told IGN in August. "Additionally, we're planning to add a feature that lets players have their own home to invite their friends."
Joining other players' worlds to click selfies may merely refer to the group photo feature already in the game, but if the existing method proves as difficult to find friends' Snapshots, let's hope Infold is cooking up ways for players to interact and traverse one another's worlds hand in hand. Luckily, no further explicit clarification is needed on the matter. Stay tuned!
