World Humanoid Robot Games Kick Off in Beijing with Spectacular Display

The 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games opened in Beijing with a dazzling display of technology and entertainment. Over 500 humanoid robots took centre stage at the opening ceremony, showcasing a diverse range of skills that left the audience in awe.

From hip-hop dance moves to martial arts techniques, these robots demonstrated their prowess in various artistic and athletic disciplines. They played musical instruments such as the keyboard, guitar, and drums, and even performed soccer and boxing moves, including scoring goals, backflips, and cheering.

Robots also integrated fashion with technology, strutting down the runway alongside human models, showcasing the latest in robotic clothing designs. The ceremony combined music, street dancers, singers, and traditional Chinese elements, emphasizing a theme of racing towards a shared intelligent future.

Chinese actor Hu Bin presented flowers to a robot during the opening ceremony, while a human-robot duo performed a musical piece before the event began. One of the highlights was the "TianGong" robot taking the oath, symbolising the commitment of these machines to peace and harmony.

Competitions also began, with robots competing in events such as the 4x100m relay final, table tennis, and the 1500m final. Booster Robotics T1 robots demonstrated their football skills in both a demonstration match against human players and a 5v5 football tournament.

Unitree Robotics robots were also in action, competing in kickboxing, freestyle events, and the 1500m final. One of their robots even stood on the podium after winning the 1500m final.

Preparations for the opening ceremony included robots dressed as terracotta warriors and Peking Opera artists. During the event, a referee removed a footballer from the field during a demonstration match, indicating that even in this futuristic world, rules still apply.

Throughout the ceremony, dancers and robots performed together, creating a harmonious blend of technology and artistry that truly showcased the potential of the future of robotics. The World Humanoid Robot Games are set to continue over the next week, with 280 teams from 16 countries competing in various events.
