The Luxeed R7, a collaboration between Huawei's HIMA and Chery, has received an update, maintaining its position as a competitive player in China's new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

The updated Luxeed R7 boasts several notable changes. The exterior mirrors now come equipped with microphones, and the decorative elements of the front light assembly have been upgraded. A new paint option, Aurora Green, has been introduced, adding a touch of elegance to the SUV's design.

However, the updates do not include any new paint options, logo redesign, or upgrades in the Luxeed R7's features, pricing, or powertrain options. The SUV continues to offer both pure electric and range-extended systems, with the range-extended version powered by a 156-horsepower 1.5T range extender.

The lower side air ducts no longer feature a textured design, and the SUV comes with a standard 21-speaker audio system. The pricing for the updated Luxeed R7 ranges from 249,800 to 339,800 yuan (34,700 to 47,200 USD).

Despite these updates, the Luxeed R7's current sales performance falls short of meeting the critical challenge of the transition to new energy. In June 2025, the SUV sold a total of 3,194 units.

Chery, a significant automotive exporter in China, is seeking to go public this year. While details on Chery's IPO or specific strategic goals associated with the Luxeed brand under Chery for 2025 or beyond are not explicitly mentioned, the company has positioned Luxeed as part of its high-end electric vehicle offerings, aligning with broader industry trends of electrification and NEV promotion in China’s market.

The Luxeed R7 features advanced technologies like 4WD, air suspension, and lidar, which fit into the premium NEV segment and suggest a transition goal toward innovation and electrification as part of Chery's competitive strategy.

The Luxeed R7's 2025 sales performance shows it as a competitive player in China's NEV market, while Chery's future goals for new energy transition likely involve leveraging Luxeed’s advanced SUV technology and increasing NEV offerings, though specific public listing details or explicit transition targets for 2025 remain unclear from current data.

In a separate development, Chery's Freelander SUV, in collaboration with Land Rover, has been seen in China ahead of its debut. However, details about this collaboration are yet to be disclosed.
