Zeekr 9X: Geely's High-Performance Hybrid SUV Debuts in China
In a significant move for the automotive industry, Geely's Zeekr brand has announced the pre-order availability of its first hybrid model, the Zeekr 9X, at the Chengdu Auto Show in late August 2025.
The Zeekr 9X is a high-performance plug-in hybrid SUV that boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine combined with three silicon carbide electric motors, delivering a peak power output of approximately 1,030 kW (1,381 hp).
The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just about 3.1 seconds and offers a combined driving range exceeding 1,000 km (over 620 miles). With 6C charging capability on a 900V system, the 9X can recharge from 20% to 80% in around 9 minutes.
Key features and specifications include:
- Battery: Equipped with a 70 kWh CATL Freevoy battery pack based on Zeekr's SEA-S architecture. This battery enables an electric-only driving range of roughly 236 miles (380 km).
- Powertrain: A 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine producing 205 kW, paired with three tri-silicon carbide electric motors, achieving a combined output of 1,030 kW (1,381 hp).
- Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in around 3.1 seconds, maintaining consistent performance even as battery charge decreases.
- Chassis and Suspension: Features advanced dual-chamber air suspension with adjustable ground clearance (up to 288 mm) and a 48V active stabilizer bar for improved handling.
- Advanced Driver Assistance: Available with G-Pilot H9 (top trim) system offering Level 3 autonomous driving capability, supported by five LiDAR sensors and Nvidia Drive Thor chips delivering 1,400 TOPS of computing power. The entry-level model features G-Pilot H7 with 700 TOPS.
- Additional Features: The vehicle also includes multiple driving modes, a luxurious two-tone interior with wood inlays, an advanced infotainment system, and spacious 6-seat capacity.
Geely has also announced the launch of the full-size PHEV crossover M9 for 34,830 USD in China. In July, the company sold 130,124 NEVs, recovering from June's decline, with the Galaxy sub-brand leading the sales for Geely.
While there are currently no plans for a fully electric version of the Zeekr 9X, Zeekr is technically prepared to offer a BEV version of the 9X if future demand justifies it. The fuel consumption of the 2.0T engine in the Zeekr 9X is 5-10% lower than that of typical 1.5T hybrid engines.
Polestar, a rival brand, is reportedly planning to exit China this year, with only 69 units sold in the first half of 2025. The pricing for the Zeekr 9X has not been finalized as of now.
The Zeekr 9X will enter the Chinese market in the third quarter of 2025, following its pre-sale debut at the Chengdu Auto Show in August. The hybrid setup includes the aforementioned battery and powertrain components. The Zeekr 9X's electric-only range is rated at 380 km under CLTC standards, while the total driving range exceeds 1,000 km.
In conclusion, the Zeekr 9X represents a remarkable blend of electrification, high power output, fast charging, and advanced autonomous driving technologies, reflecting a strong step forward for Geely’s hybrid ambitions.
- The Zeekr 9X, a high-performance electric-vehicle (EV), is set to enter China's automotive industry, offering a combination of hybrid and EV technology.
- Geely's Zeekr brand is launching a full-size plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) crossover, the M9, priced at 34,830 USD in China.
- The Zeekr 9X, with its advanced technology features like 6C charging capability and Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities, is poised to challenge competitors in the transportation and technology sectors.
- Despite Polestar's reported exit from China, the pricing for the Zeekr 9X has not been finalized, leaving room for competition in both the finance and lifestyle segments of the market.
