iPhone 17 Series Launches in Australia: Pro Models Outsell iPhone Air
The new iPhone 17 series hit Australian shores on Friday, September 19, 2025, with eager customers lining up as early as 3 a.m. on George Street, Sydney. The first buyers bypassed the iPhone Air, opting for the iPhone 17 and Pro models instead.
The iPhone 17 series, available in four variants, saw its first customers make their choices. The iPhone Air, priced at AUD$1,799, was surprisingly overlooked by the initial buyers. The first customer selected an iPhone 17 in Mist Blue, appreciating its balance of features and affordability at AUD$1,399. The second and third customers opted for the iPhone 17 Pro Max in Silver and an Apple Watch Series 11, respectively, priced at AUD$2,199 and AUD$799.
As the day progressed, other Apple products like the Apple Watch Ultra 3, AirTag 2, Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini, and M5 iPad Pro started to leave the shelves, as the initial rush was for the iPhone 17 series.
The iPhone 17 series launch saw early adopters favoring the iPhone 17 and Pro models over the iPhone Air. Despite the Air's buzz, customers seemed drawn to the Pro features and lower prices of the iPhone 17 and Pro Max. As the day wore on, other Apple products found their buyers, marking a successful launch event for the tech giant.
