James Gunn reveals heartwarming reason behind development of significant Superman figure
Rewritten Article:
Genuine kindness in the limelight is hard to come by, but James Gunn - a known dog lover - takes it up a notch by combining superhero news with a heartwarming shelter dog adoption message on social media. Check out the post below, featuring Krypto, Superman's four-legged companion, alongside Gunn's own pooch, the similarly-fluffy Ozu.
"Krypto will grace our screens in Superman this summer," Gunn captioned the post. "Our Krypto was inspired by Ozu, who joined our family shortly after I started writing Superman. Coming from a hoarding situation with over 60 other dogs, Ozu had never known human touch and was quite the handful. He quickly wrecked our home and possessions, even devouring my laptop. It took months before he allowed us to touch him. As I wondered, 'What if Ozu had superpowers?' Krypto emerged in the script, reshaping the story just as Ozu was transforming my life. Why not debut this mischievous super-pooch during #AdoptAShelterDog month? By the way, our Ozu's a very good boy more often than not these days."
Given the plot of the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Krypto is set to continue his screen presence beyond his big-screen introduction in Gunn's upcoming project. In this film, Milly Alcock's Supergirl takes action after the movie's villain (portrayed by Matthew Schoenaerts, rumored to be comic book villain Krem of the Yellow Hills) injures Krypto. Krypto initially made an appearance in comics back in 1955 and has since been featured in shows like Smallville, Titans, and the 2022 animated film DC's League of Super-Pets.
Voice-acted by Dwayne Johnson in DC's League of Super-Pets, Krypto will make his live-action big-screen debut, providing stiff competition in the adorable stakes for this summer's canine sensation, Deadpool & Wolverine's internet sensation Dogpool.
October may officially be Adopt a Shelter Dog month, but Gunn and Ozu would argue that any month is perfect to welcome a furry friend into your life. Just be mindful and secure those valuable electronics! Superman premieres July 11, 2025, while Supergirl hits theaters June 26, 2026.
