JCB Deepens Partnership with Worldpay from FIS for Britain's Biggest Contactless Payment Rollout

JCB International Co., Ltd. has announced an extension of its collaboration with FIS and Worldpay from FIS to enable JCB Contactless for UK merchants. By the end of 2024, the full rollout of JCB Contactless is expected across the remaining 80% of Worldpay terminals in the UK.

This collaboration aims to simplify merchants' payments acceptance and accelerate growth, as more and more merchants in the UK look towards a cashless future. Comprehensive contactless payments are emerging as a critical function, with the research conducted by Worldpay from FIS showing a shift towards contactless payments among consumers.

In the UK, cards and digital wallets combined accounted for 86% of POS spend. Enabling JCB Contactless will help Worldpay meet the increased demand for comprehensive contactless acceptance amongst its merchants.

JCB Contactless is a contactless payment system that allows customers to shop by holding their JCB Card or JCB-card-enabled smartphone or other devices over the store terminal. Based on the global chip standard 'EMV,' this system offers a high level of security.

Nick Fisher, General Manager, UK, JCB International (Europe) Ltd., believes that offering a greater variety of contactless options will enhance the customer experience for Worldpay's merchants. The fast, secure, and convenient payment process offered by JCB Contactless will help Worldpay's merchants increase their sales opportunities.

Ray Shinzawa, Managing Director for JCB International (Europe) Ltd., is delighted about the next stage of the collaboration with Worldpay. By 2023, approximately 20% of Worldpay Point of Sale (POS) systems in the UK will be equipped to accept JCB contactless payments.

Chris Wood, General Manager for SMB International, Worldpay Merchant Solutions, FIS, stresses the importance of providing consumers with the ability to pay with their preferred payment method. JCB Contactless transactions have a higher average transaction value compared to other payment methods.

The recently published Worldpay from FIS Global Payments Report found cash use continues to decline at POS, with contactless payments in the form of digital wallets and contactless cards on the rise. FIS plans the activation of JCB Contactless on the remaining 80% of Worldpay terminals in the UK in 2024.

This collaboration will enable JCB's 154 million cardmember community to transact with Worldpay's UK merchants that have JCB Contactless. The next stage of JCB's mid-term plan is to enable JCB Contactless across the remaining 80% of Worldpay terminals in the UK, with full rollout expected by the end of 2024.
