Jeddah Tower to Reach 1km, Overtaking Burj Khalifa in 2028
The Jeddah Tower, a monumental engineering feat, is set to redefine Saudi Arabia's skyline. Expected to be completed by 2028, this tower will stand as a testament to modern engineering and a significant milestone in the kingdom's evolution. Once completed, it will surpass the Eiffel Tower as the world's tallest building, standing over one kilometre tall.
Designed by Adrian Smith, who also crafted the Burj Khalifa, the Jeddah Tower is designed to withstand intense desert winds, saline humidity, and temperature fluctuations. The tower's foundation, one of the deepest and most complex in the world at 7,500 square metres, ensures its stability. The structure will house a mix of spaces, including luxury apartments, premium offices, a five-star hotel, and a panoramic observation deck, offering breathtaking views.
The Jeddah Tower's development is part of a three-phase plan that includes infrastructure development and urban integration. Despite facing interruptions such as economic fluctuations and contractor disputes, construction has since resumed. The project's planning and construction execution is led by the US architect Adrian Smith, with the main contractor now being the Kingdom Holding Company, which invited international construction companies to continue the work. The Jeddah Economic City project, valued at $20 billion, aims to create a sustainable urban ecosystem and attract investors and residents.
The Jeddah Tower, once called the Kingdom Tower, is set to become a global icon, symbolising Saudi Arabia's progress and ambition. Upon completion in 2028, it will stand as a monument to modern engineering and a significant milestone in the kingdom's evolution, surpassing the Eiffel Tower by more than 170 metres.
