JLR Resumes UK Production After £120M Cyber Attack

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is set to resume production at some of its UK plants today, Monday, following a month-long shutdown due to a significant cyber attack in early September. The attack, which affected operations across the UK, Slovakia, Brazil, and India, has resulted in an estimated £120 million loss for the company.

The restart comes after weeks of disruption, with JLR typically producing around 1,000 cars daily. The firm employs over 30,000 staff across its UK production sites, supporting a vast supply chain of around 120,000 jobs, predominantly in small and medium-sized businesses. The Government has stepped in to support suppliers, offering a £1.5 billion loan guarantee.

Ministers and cyber experts have been working closely with JLR to facilitate the restart. Manufacturing processes will initially resume at the Wolverhampton engine factory, with vehicle production at Halewood and Solihull plants expected to follow later this week. However, production will be limited initially, with full capacity not expected immediately.

While the attack affected some data, JLR has confirmed that no customer financial data or passwords were compromised. This is the second major cyber incident affecting JLR in recent years, following a significant attack in 2025.

The restart of JLR's production lines is a significant step towards recovery from the cyber attack. The company, which is a major contributor to the UK automotive sector, will now work to restore full production capacity and support its extensive supply chain. The Government's loan guarantee is aimed at helping JLR's suppliers weather the disruption and maintain their operations.
