Major Money Laundering Case: 9 Suspects to Face Charges
A significant milestone has been reached in a major money laundering case. Nine suspects, aged between 43 and 63, are set to face charges following an extensive investigation by the Department for Combating Serious and Serial Crimes.
The suspects, whose identities remain undisclosed, are accused of laundering approximately €500 million over an extended period. They allegedly acquired luxurious real estate in Latvia and abroad, invested in new real estate development, and purchased high-end goods with the illicit funds. The group also established a security company using the criminally obtained money.
In April 2024, an arrest was made when Jian G., a former employee of AfD politician Maximilian Krah, was detained. This arrest led to searches and investigations in Berlin, Dresden, Limbach-Oberfrohna, and Brussels. One of the nine suspects has a prior conviction for a different offense.
The criminal proceedings have been forwarded to the Riga District Prosecutor's Office for prosecution. Seized assets, valued at around €15 million, include real estate, vehicles, shares, jewelry, collector coins, and luxury watches. The suspects face penalties ranging from three to 12 years imprisonment, with or without probation and property confiscation. The case remains active, with no suspect names released by authorities.
