Major Tech Companies Are Set to Elevate Flattery to Unprecedented Levels
Donald Trump clinched another term as the President of the United States on a Tuesday, outperforming Vice President Kamala Harris not just in the Electoral College votes but also in the popular vote. The tech industry titans swiftly extended their congratulations to Trump on a Wednesday, via tweets indicating their readiness to indulge his requirements as needed. This situation seems to foreshadow a new phase, with numerous individuals expected to pay a visit to Trump, just to kiss the hand of the 47th president, a figure promising to metamorphose into a dictator on his inaugural day and forcefully deport millions, a move that's likely to deal a severe blow to the economy. The anticipation is making us feel queasy.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is expected to reap the most benefit from Trump's success in the tech sector. Musk shelled out at least $120 million to aid Trump's election bid and even spent some time strategizing with him at Mar-a-Lago the night before. However, multiple other tech leaders now need to assert their loyalty to Trump to maintain or secure new opportunities with the U.S. government. And the streak of flattery commenced with Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.
Bezos sent out his congratulations on a Wednesday, stating, “Major congratulations to our 45th and now 47th President on an extraordinary rebound and decisive victory. No nation has more prospective opportunities. Wishing @realDonaldTrump continued success in his role as the nation's leader and unifier.”
Trump previously referred to Bezos as “Jeff Bozo” and targeted Amazon repeatedly during his initial term. However, Bezos provided Trump a favor by scrapping an endorsement of Harris by his newspaper - The Washington Post - shortly before the election. When Trump clinched his first term in 2016, Bezos celebrated by tweeting, “I, for one, welcome him with an open mind and wish him great success in his service to the country.”
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, also extended his congratulations via Threads, a social media platform released in July 2023 to rival Twitter.
Trump had previously threatened to imprison Zuckerberg. Yet, despite this unhinged outburst, Zuckerberg hailed Trump as a “badass,” indicating his willingness to help Trump throughout the campaign.
Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet, also congratulated Trump on a Wednesday.
“Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on his triumphant victory. We are in the midst of a golden age of American innovation and are dedicated to working with his administration to help benefit everyone,” Pichai tweeted, incorporating a map displaying Trump's victory.
Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple previously referred to as “Tim Apple” by Trump, also expressed his thoughts on Trump's victory.
Other dignitaries who extended their congratulations included Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Trump, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy who celebrated Trump's win as a “hard-fought victory,” and Sam Altman who wished Trump “massive success.”
Watching these millionaires and billionaires act in such a servile manner may be perplexing, given that Trump was reportedly known to applaud Adolf Hitler for his achievements. However, we're stepping into an entirely fresh chapter in this nation. The guardrails seem to have disintegrated, and wealthy individuals in the tech world will face minimal social repercussions as Trump reshapes the nation as per his desires.
There is going to be a significant amount of flattery directed towards all of them in the future.
