MediaTek Collaborates with Grinn to Release High-Performance System-on-Modules (SOMs) Powered by Genio Technology
In an exciting development for the world of smart home devices, industrial automation, and computer vision systems, Grinn, a full-cycle technology company specialising in IoT and embedded solutions, has partnered with MediaTek. This partnership aims to make the integration of edge AI into end products less complex for customers.
The partnership has resulted in the creation of the Grinn GenioSOM-700 and GenioSOM-510, the world's smallest System-on-Modules (SOMs) based on the MediaTek Genio platform. The Grinn GenioSOM-700, in particular, is the smallest SOM based on the Genio 700 processor, supplied in an LGA-312 format with a footprint of 37.0mm x 42.6mm.
The MediaTek Genio 700, powering the Grinn GenioSOM-700, boasts a neural processing unit (NPU) with an on-chip 4 TOPS capacity, enabling real-time AI operation. The processor also features dual 2.2GHz Arm Cortex-A78 cores for intensive compute workloads, six 2.0GHz Cortex-A55 cores for efficient multi-tasking, and an Arm Mali-G57 graphics processing unit (GPU) for sophisticated graphics and smooth image rendering.
The new SOMs support demanding compute workloads, real-time AI operations, high-quality video, display, and audio applications. The Grinn GenioSOM-700 offers a combination of high-speed interfaces, image signal processing, and video codecs for demanding machine vision and audio applications.
MediaTek's General Manager of the IoT Business Group, CK Wang, stated that the solutions brought to life through the partnership utilise AI capabilities and advanced connectivity, enabling benefits in the SOM and wireless module space.
The combination of high-performance computing and low power consumption in Grinn's ready-to-use modules allows for faster movement from prototyping to deployment. The Grinn GenioEVB serves as a versatile evaluation platform for the Grinn GenioSOM family of modules, simplifying the integration of sensors and modules with Grinn GenioSOM products.
Robert Otręba, CEO of Grinn, leads strategic partnerships such as this one with MediaTek to develop high-performance SOMs based on MediaTek's Genio processors for AI and vision applications. This partnership ensures that innovative AI solutions at the edge are more accessible, scalable, and production-ready from day one.
Grinn's partnership with MediaTek enables them to address a diverse range of IoT applications and market segments with the MediaTek Genio platform. The company also produces the Grinn GenioSOM-510 based on the MediaTek Genio 510 processor.
In conclusion, the partnership between Grinn and MediaTek is set to revolutionise the smart home, industrial automation, and computer vision industries by making edge AI more accessible and production-ready. The world's smallest SOMs based on the MediaTek Genio platform are poised to make a significant impact in these sectors.
