Mediterranean Conservation Success Stories Highlighted at IUCN World Congress 2025
The Mediterranean region's conservation success stories will take centre stage at the IUCN World Congress of Nature 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The event, organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), will showcase regional initiatives on biodiversity, climate resilience, marine protection, and sustainable development.
The Congress, happening from 9-15 October 2025, will feature IUCN Med and key partners presenting initiatives under themes like resilient conservation, climate risk reduction, equity, and positive economic transitions. Highlights include the launch of the European Subregional Technical and Scientific Support Centre to aid countries in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The Mediterranean Blue Natural Capital Mechanism, a regional funding tool for marine and coastal restoration, will also be presented. Outstanding initiatives span freshwater resilience, ecosystem restoration, regenerative blue economy, and innovative tools.
The event will also mark IUCN Med's commitment to strengthening alliances and collaboration with Members and Commissions for the IUCN Programme 2026-2029 in the Mediterranean region.
