Morphing Machines Raises $4.3M for Revolutionary Data Center Processor

Morphing Machines, a Bengaluru-based fabless semiconductor IP startup, has secured INR 38.4 Cr (about $4.3 Mn) in its Series A funding round. The startup aims to revolutionise data centres with its many-core processor and plans to enter global markets.

Founded in 2006 and incubated at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Morphing Machines has developed a runtime reconfigurable many-core processor called 'REDEFINETM'. This processor offers flexibility for data centres, AI/ML workloads, telecom infrastructure, and next-gen enterprise compute applications.

The startup plans to begin customer demos of this processor and secure early adoption in data centres within the next 12 to 24 months. It also aims to enter global markets like the US and Europe over time.

Morphing Machines is among the homegrown semiconductor companies benefitting from the Centre's push to make India a semiconductor hub. The Union cabinet has cleared four new semiconductor projects with a total investment of INR 4,584 Cr under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). The startup is also supported by government initiatives like DLI (Design-Linked Incentive) and C2S (Chips2Startup).

The fresh capital raised in the Series A round, led by existing investors with the additional investor's identity not disclosed, will be used to build and test Morphing Machines' first chip, strengthen its product, and expand its team to over 90 members.

With the semiconductor market in India expected to breach the $150 Bn mark by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 24% from 2023, Morphing Machines is well-positioned to capitalise on this growth. Its innovative many-core processor and government support make it a promising player in the global semiconductor industry.
