Moscow's Warm Week: Time to Prepare Winter Tires

Moscow residents can expect a slight temperature increase this week, with Thursday and Friday predicted to reach 12-13 degrees Celsius. The change in weather serves as a reminder for drivers to prepare their vehicles for the upcoming winter season, including timely tire replacement.

Experts advise changing tires when average daily temperatures approach +5-7 degrees Celsius. In Moscow, this typically occurs in the last week of October, while St. Petersburg residents should start considering tire replacement from October 20. Winter tires must bear the 'M+S', 'M&S', or 'M S' marking and can be either studded or non-studded.

Summer tires' performance is significantly impacted by lower temperatures, leading to increased braking distances and reduced fuel efficiency. In Germany, winter tires are mandatory for most vehicles from mid-October onwards, with the Alpine symbol (Three Peak Mountain Snowflake) becoming the only accepted marking for winter use starting October 2024.

As temperatures rise this week in Moscow, drivers are urged to prioritize safety and fuel efficiency by changing their tires in a timely manner. Understanding the optimal tire replacement times and the importance of winter tire markings can help ensure safe driving throughout the winter season.
