NFT Sales Unfolding Beyond Standard Platforms on Avalanche Network Amid Plans for Steam Expansion

Off The Grid Migrates to Mainnet, Set to Expand to Steam Despite Blockchain Ban

Off The Grid, the popular Avalanche-based shooter game, is making a significant move by transitioning its player base to the GUNZ mainnet. This shift enables in-game items to be traded as NFTs using GUN tokens. Despite Steam's ban on blockchain games since 2021, Off The Grid is slated for release on the platform in June.

The migration to mainnet commenced with PC players initially and will eventually encompass all wallets. However, the specifics of integrating crypto features with Steam—which does not allow such features—remain unclear. Off The Grid is also available on PlayStation and Xbox, but crypto features are still absent on these platforms.

Previously, all console players had been playing the game only on testnet, which meant they were unable to trade items due to the absence of player-facing blockchain features. Now, with the migration to mainnet, they can potentially cash out thousands of dollars from rare guns and other items.

Rare items such as the Prankster tactical vest, ZipperMouth mask, and Convict chest rig have already fetched thousands of dollars in crypto. These items are believed to be extremely scarce, with less than 300 ZipperMouth masks and a promise from Gunzilla Games to reissue both ZipperMouth masks and Convict gear in the future, potentially dampening their value.

However, rare Pioneer items, which were handed out in the first OTG Pro subscription and will not be re-released, are seen as the most rare set in the game. Many collectors anticipate a surge in demand after promised updates, which could trigger five-figure NFT sales. As a result, collectors are holding onto their rarest items, expecting the market to explode.

The Off The Grid Steam listing hints at an in-game marketplace, suggesting the potential presence of functional crypto features. However, with the ban on blockchain games on Steam, the implementation of these features remains uncertain.

Gunzilla Games, the creators of Off The Grid, have not commented on the progress of the update or the specifics of how crypto features will work on Steam. In the meantime, the independent blockchain ecosystem of Off The Grid continues to thrive, with the GUNZ mainnet launched and NFT trading occurring outside of Steam's ecosystem.

For interested players, Off The Grid is now available for wishlisting on Steam. The game promises to bring action-packed gameplay to a wider audience while circumventing Steam's blockchain game ban by releasing a non-blockchain version on the platform. The crypto/NFT economy will remain off Steam to comply with the platform's policy.
