Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Arrives on Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo Switch Online members can now join the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, a speedrunning challenge game featuring over 150 short "byte-sized" challenges drawn from 13 classic NES games. The competition is available until August 19, 1:59 a.m. PT, and requires an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription, internet connectivity, and a Nintendo Account.
Challenging Moments from Classic NES Games
The challenges are not full NES games but specific moments or levels inspired by these iconic titles. Players do not need prior experience with the original games to participate. The game includes tough challenges that may test players' limits, such as Pop It (Balloon FightTM), Hammer Bro KO (Super Mario Bros. 3TM), Fireball Rush (Kirby's AdventureTM), Leap to the Peak (Super Mario Bros. 2TM), and Neigh Slayer (Zelda II: The Adventure of LinkTM).
Compete Online or Locally
Players can compete against others online, challenge friends locally, or improve their personal bests. For online features, internet access is mandatory. Any online features, including global competition, require a separate Nintendo Switch Online membership and a Nintendo Account. The game supports couch co-op, but additional accessories may be required and sold separately.
Ranking System and Leaderboards
Players get letter rankings for challenge completion speed; runs can be competed side-by-side for improvement tracking. Players can also check their overall placement and performance against other players in their birth year.
