Nordhorn's Comfort Bike Paths Win National Recognition

Nordhorn's city council has implemented the 'Comfort Bike Paths' project, transforming cycling infrastructure in the city. The project has been recognised nationally, with Nordhorn placing third in the German Bike Prize 2018.

The project focuses on the seven-kilometer bike path along the Nordhorn-Almelo and connecting canals. The most popular section received a second lane last year, preserving old alley trees. Cyclists now enjoy right-of-way at intersections, including Heseper Weg and Frensdorferhaar, which were redesigned for their convenience. Underpasses along the route allow cyclists to continue without stopping at other intersections.

The city council has also ensured that drivers must yield to cyclists at key points, further enhancing safety and comfort. While the specific company behind the changes is not mentioned in available sources, the project's success has been notable, earning Nordhorn a prestigious nomination.

Nordhorn's 'Comfort Bike Paths' project has significantly improved cycling conditions in the city. With a seven-kilometer path now prioritising cyclists, the city has shown commitment to sustainable and comfortable transportation. The project's recognition in the German Bike Prize 2018 underscores its success and impact on the city's cycling community.
