Nordsol & Gasum to Build BioLNG Plant in Norway for Clean Transport
Nordsol and Gasum have joined forces to build a bio-liquefied natural gas (bioLNG) plant in Hardanger, Norway. The project, supported by Norwegian funding, aims to reduce emissions in long-haul transport and support regional sustainability goals.
Nordsol, a Swedish company, will supply the plant to Vireo, a Norwegian biogas producer. The plant will process around 125,000 tonnes of feedstock annually, generating approximately 90 GWh of bioLNG. This clean energy source will fuel Gasum's network of over 50 bioLNG filling stations in the Hardanger region. Gasum's ambition is to bring 7 TWh of biogas to the market yearly by 2027.
The plant will convert biogas from salmon processing and poultry manure into bioLNG. This will significantly reduce emissions in road transport and shipping. Nordsol's CEO, Leon van Bossum, praised the project for supporting regional sustainability goals. Vireo selected Nordsol due to their shared ambitions and technical expertise. The project has received funding from the Norwegian Research Council and other international programmes.
The bioLNG plant in Hardanger, a collaboration between Nordsol and Vireo, is set to produce 90 GWh of bioLNG annually. This will contribute to Gasum's goal of bringing 7 TWh of biogas to the market by 2027. The project, supported by Norwegian funding, underscores the region's commitment to reducing emissions and promoting sustainability in transport.
