PC version of Battlefield 6 introduces a fragmented install feature, allowing the 80GB installation to be reduced to 55GB by separately installing the campaign and multiplayer.

Battlefield 6, the highly anticipated first-person shooter from Electronic Arts (EA), is set to release on October 6, 2021, and offers an exciting new feature for PC gamers - fragmented downloads. This modular installation system allows players to download only the parts of the game they want, making it easier to manage storage space.

The base install size of Battlefield 6 is 55 GB, but players can choose to download the campaign and multiplayer components, which will increase the install size to 80 GB. This feature is similar to modern Call of Duty launchers, where players can select specific game elements to download.

The fragmented download feature is currently confirmed only for the PC version of Battlefield 6. It's yet to be determined if this feature will also be available for console platforms. A more appropriate comparison for Battlefield 6's installation method is Fortnite, which allows separate downloads for Save the World (campaign) and Battle Royale.

Players with limited storage can enjoy Battlefield 6 without worrying about freeing up space. It's possible to install only the campaign first, play it, delete it, and then install the multiplayer. This modular installation system offers a level of flexibility not typically found in AAA titles, allowing players to tailor their gaming experience to their storage needs.

Battlefield 6's base size is smaller compared to the Call of Duty app due to fewer titles it has to carry. The full install size of 80 GB is still smaller compared to typical blockbuster titles of 150 GB.

In addition to its innovative installation method, Battlefield 6 promises large, sprawling multiplayer battles with real-time environment destruction. The reported performance numbers suggest that developers have prioritized optimization, aiming for 300+ FPS.
