Phoenix firm Gen appoints two new executive positions

In an interview with Fashion Dive, John Kennedy, CEO of Gen Phoenix, revealed the company's plans to expand its business. As part of this growth strategy, Gen Phoenix has created two new positions: Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Strategy Officer, and has appointed two industry veterans to fill these roles.

Lisa Conway, who previously worked at flooring firm Interface for 17 years, has been hired as the Chief Revenue Officer. She will be based in Philadelphia and will lead the company's sales team and spearhead its transport seating business. Conway's extensive experience in the industry is expected to drive Gen Phoenix's sales and revenue growth.

LaTres Jarrett, who most recently worked at Bridgestone Tires, has been appointed as the Chief Strategy Officer. Jarrett, who previously worked for PepsiCo, will be based in Nashville, Tennessee. Jarrett's role will focus on developing growth opportunities for Gen Phoenix in its existing and adjacent markets.

Two well-known investors, Dr. Martens and Tapestry, have also joined Gen Phoenix in its expansion efforts. Last year, both companies participated in Gen Phoenix's $18 million funding round. The partnership with Dr. Martens has led to a line of boots made with Gen Phoenix's material, while Gen Phoenix has partnered with Tapestry-owned Coach on its subbrand Coachtopia.

The Gen Phoenix material, formed from leather fibers, has an 85% lower carbon footprint compared to traditional leather. This eco-friendly material, which has characteristics similar to traditional leather, initially debuted in the mass transportation seating category, but has recently expanded into fashion. The technology used by Gen Phoenix turns leather waste into a new raw material, contributing to a more sustainable fashion industry.

John Kennedy, CEO of Gen Phoenix, stated that the hires are a step toward the company's commitment to accelerating innovation in the circular materials industry. With Conway and Jarrett on board, Gen Phoenix is poised to make significant strides in expanding its business in terms of markets and brand partners. The exact details of these collaborations and expansions have not yet been disclosed.
