Potential Loss of Hundreds of Free TV Channels: Act Now to Prevent

**Amazon's Freevee Service to Shut Down in 2025, Content to Move to Prime Video**

Amazon's ad-supported streaming service, Freevee, is set to close its doors in August 2025. Launched in 2019 by the Amazon-owned Internet Movie Database (IMDb), Freevee has been providing a variety of movies, TV shows, and live channels to its users.

The platform, originally known as IMDb Freedive and later rebranded as IMDb TV in 2022, will cease operation after August, but users will still have access to Freevee until the end of the month.

In a move to simplify and centralise its streaming services, Amazon has announced that all content from Freevee will be migrated to Amazon Prime Video. This includes Freevee Originals such as "Jury Duty" and "Bosch: Legacy," as well as a wide range of free, ad-supported movies, series, and FAST (Free Ad-Supported Television) channels.

Non-Prime members will still be able to access these offerings on Prime Video without needing a subscription, though they will be subject to ads. This means that a vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members on Prime Video.

Dedicated stations for specific shows, such as Hell's Kitchen and The Great British Menu in the UK, are already available on Prime Video. Some Freevee channels can also be found on Prime Video under the "Live TV" tab. However, it's important to note that not all Freevee channels have made the jump to Prime Video yet.

If the Prime Video app is not already on a user's TV, it will need to be redownloaded to continue receiving affected channels. To access the free content on Prime Video, users need to sign in with their Amazon account.

Last year, Amazon decided to phase out the Freevee name and separate its offering to simplify its streaming services. The shutdown affects hundreds of free TV channels in the US, UK, and elsewhere. Select originals from Amazon MGM Studios, licensed movies, series, and a broad library of FAST channels are available on Prime Video.

This consolidation aims to deliver a more streamlined viewing experience for users by eliminating confusion between multiple apps and focusing all content on a single platform. Amazon warned of this shutdown at the end of last year. The service's closure in August 2025 marks the end of an era for Freevee, but the transition to Prime Video promises a continuation of the service's popular content.

Technology will seamlessly transfer as Freevee content moves from its ad-supported streaming platform to Amazon Prime Video, ensuring that entertainment offerings such as "Jury Duty" and "Bosch: Legacy" remain accessible. Non-Prime members can still enjoy these free streaming options on Prime Video, albeit with advertisements, creating a broader range of ad-supported content.
