Honda's electrification ambitions in China are taking a significant leap forward with the introduction of the e:NS1, the company's first all-electric vehicle model in the country. Scheduled for pre-orders on March 18, the e:NS1 promises to revolutionise the electric vehicle market with its innovative features and impressive specifications.

The e:NS1 will be showcased in Wuhan and Guangzhou from March 18 to March 27, offering potential buyers a chance to get a closer look at this groundbreaking vehicle. For those unable to attend, Honda is ramping up its marketing efforts to ensure the e:NS1's pre-sale is a success.

At the heart of the e:NS1 lies a high-efficiency electric motor, delivering instant torque for smooth and responsive performance. The vehicle is expected to produce around 197 horsepower, ensuring a satisfying driving experience. In hybrid modes, it is supported by an EHS electric hybrid system and a 1.5L engine, but for the e:NS1 concept focused on China, it will be fully electric.[1][4]

The e:NS1's battery of choice is the BYD Blade Battery, known for its safety and longevity. This choice allows for an effective driving range, with the vehicle offering up to 510 km (CLTC standard) on a single charge, making it ideal for daily commutes and longer trips.[2][1]

The e:NS1 also features an E-CVT (Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission) to deliver smooth power transitions, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Honda's production capacity for new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China is being expanded. In October 2021, the company signed an investment agreement to build a new electric vehicle plant in Wuhan, covering an area of 630,000 square meters. The plant is scheduled to go into operation in 2024, with an initial base annual capacity of 120,000 vehicles.[1]

The e:NS1 is just the beginning of Honda's electrification journey in China. The company also unveiled three concepts - e:N Coupe, e:N SUV, and e:N GT - at the same event, with their production versions expected within five years. The e:N lineup will offer pure electric vehicles built primarily for Chinese consumers.[1]

The GAC Honda's NEV capacity expansion project, started in October 2021, will be able to produce 120,000 NEVs per year after completion in 2024, with a total investment of about RMB 2.989 billion ($460 million).[1]

The e:NS1, along with another production model, the e:NP1, will be available for sale in spring 2022, marking a significant milestone in Honda's electrification strategy in China. With its innovative powertrain, BYD Blade Battery technology, substantial electric-only range, and hybrid capabilities, the e:NS1 is set to redefine the electric vehicle landscape in China, starting in 2023.[1][2][4]
