Proposal Consulted on Directive for Harmonizing Radiation Safety Laws for Workers Across Member States
In a move to boost the region's economic growth, the Minister President of Bavaria, Markus Söder, has called for prioritising key industry facilities and data centres in new electricity grid connections. Söder believes that network expansion should be further accelerated to keep pace with the growing demands of these critical infrastructure sectors.
Söder's proposals include a maximum approval period of two years for network expansion projects, a significant reduction from the current process. This expedited approach is aimed at streamlining the development of new connections, ensuring that they are up and running as quickly as possible.
The call for accelerated network expansion is not a new concept in Bavaria. Söder's predecessor, Horst Seehofer, had previously advocated for major power lines to be laid underground to minimise environmental impact. This approach aligns with Söder's current proposals, indicating a consistent commitment towards sustainable development.
In addition to network expansion, Söder and Bavaria's Economics Minister, Hubert Aiwanger, have also called for the construction of new gas power plants. This is to ensure a reliable supply of power to these critical facilities and data centres.
Acceleration is not just limited to network expansion. Söder also emphasised the need for procedures for maintenance work to be expedited. This will help in minimising downtime and ensuring uninterrupted service to the industry and data centres.
The CEO of the Association of Bavarian Business (vbw), Bertram Brossardt, particularly emphasised the importance of prioritising industry and data centres in new connections. Brossardt's endorsement of Söder's initiatives underscores the support these proposals have garnered from the business community.
In line with these initiatives, Bavaria has introduced a "fast lane" for large projects. This initiative is designed to facilitate the swift approval and execution of projects that are crucial for the region's economic growth.
The proposals and initiatives have been warmly welcomed by the Association of Bavarian Business and representatives of network operators. This collective support suggests a shared vision for the future of Bavaria's infrastructure and economy.
