Exploring the Alien Realm: The James Webb Space Telescope's Deep-Field Images Spark Curiosity About Extraterrestrial Life

Is it Possible that Life Exists Beyond Earth? With the images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, the notion of life existing elsewhere becomes more plausible. These images show only a minuscule portion of the sky, yet they contain countless galaxies, each containing billions of stars. Given these odds, it seems implausible that our planet is the sole one supporting life. Recent discoveries in studying extraterrestrial materials, such as Martian meteorites and asteroid dust, have revealed the essential ingredients for biological processes. In January, a significant discovery was made when scientists revealed finding 14 of the 20 amino acids that make up human proteins within a sample from asteroid Bennu. Notably, this sample contained all five nucleotide bases found in our DNA (adenine, guanine, cytosine, thymine, and uracil). So, could life be common in the universe? Did life on Earth originate from another world? In this issue, Jonathan O'Callaghan delves deeper into this question.
