Recent Samsung Leak Reveals Anticlimactic Galaxy S25 Ultra Lens Enhancement
Fresh intel has surfaced concerning Samsung's 2025 flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra smartphone that might displease photography enthusiasts.
Details exposed from supposedly "leaked" documents titled "Galaxy S25 Ultra files", prominent leaker Assemble Debug disclosed the full camera sensor specifications for Samsung's upcoming flagship. The documents outline the camera hardware, and some may find it surprisingly similar to the current Galaxy S24 Ultra, albeit with a single notable upgrade.
Galaxy S25 Rear Camera Specifications Demystified
As per the data, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature the following rear camera sensors:
- Primary camera: 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP2
- Ultra Wide: 50-megapixel ISOCELL JN3
- 3x Telephoto: 10-megapixel Sony IMX754
- 5x Telephoto: 50-megapixel Sony IMX854
- Selfie: 12-megapixel ISOCELL 3LU
If this setup looks familiar, it's because almost all these camera sensors remain the same as those in the current Galaxy S24 Ultra, implying that, in terms of sensor hardware at least, the Galaxy S25 Ultra may not deliver a significant camera upgrade compared to its predecessor. This information also aligns with an earlier prediction by the respected tipster Ice Universe, who hinted at the same setup in September.
The major upgrade, however, is the incorporation of a new 50-megapixel Ultra-Wide module, a substantial leap from the 12-megapixel sensor found in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This upgrade pushes the S25 Ultra closer to Google's Pixel 9 Pro, which boasts a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and potentially Apple's 2025 iPhone 16 Pro, which seems to be undergoing a similar ultra-wide camera enhancement.
Swapping to 50 megapixels would yield more detail in wide-angle photos and an ample resolution for 8K video recording from the ultra-wide camera. However, it's unclear whether Samsung will provide this option.
On top of the superior sensor, the ultra-wide camera is rumored to receive a "new, brighter, F/1.9 aperture lens", capable of capturing around 34% more light than the Galaxy S24 Ultra version. This enhanced lens could boost picture quality significantly, particularly in low-light situations, where Dxomark found the Galaxy S24 Ultra struggles with graininess due to image noise.
Regardless of any camera hardware improvements, Samsung generally delivers a range of software and AI-based camera enhancements with each new Galaxy S series. The specifics will be unveiled during Samsung's launch event, which is expected to occur within a few weeks, in January 2025.
